TOWER FOUNDATIONS

Prefabricated concrete foundations of the EF series

Precast concrete foundations are one of the most common and cost-effective foundation techniques for medium-sized towers ranging from 28 to 45 meters in height, as well as for large guyed masts.

Description

Precast concrete foundations are one of the most common and cost-effective foundation techniques for medium-sized towers ranging from 28 to 45 meters in height, as well as for large guyed masts. They are worth using wherever soil conditions permit (groundwater level below the foundation base, non-plastic soil) and where heavy equipment (HDS, crane) is readily available. The main advantage of prefabricated elements is quick installation—even a foundation for a large structure can be completed by a team of several people in one to two days, and the structure can be loaded almost immediately. The disadvantages include relatively expensive delivery due to the significant weight and volume, the difficulty of positioning the elements in the excavation, the need for fairly precise preparation, leveling, and hardening of the excavation bottom with dry concrete, and finally, the difficult and precise positioning of the foundations relative to one another so that they will later fit the planned—and most often already constructed—tower structure. Fortunately, this last point does not apply to guyed masts. In general, it is best to leave work with precast foundations to a specialized team experienced in working with this solution—the advantages mentioned earlier still make precast elements the solution of first choice in many of our clients’ projects.

Availability and installation method

  • Prefabrication time: 4 weeks,
  • Variable stock level,
  • The product is factory protected against water,
  • Should be installed above the groundwater level,
  • The prefabricated element can be installed on the ground surface and covered with embankment,
  • You should always consult the choice of foundation and its installation method with a local architect,
  • Fill the bottom of the trench with a 20 cm layer of gravel, then a 10 cm layer of dry concrete. Concrete should be leveled to create a flat surface for foundations,
  • The foundation procedure does not apply to prefabricated elements used as guy anchors for masts,
  • The foundation hinge for the tower is included if the tower and foundation are ordered together
