In 2019, we entered into an interesting partnership with SpaceForest, a company that was just getting started at the time. Based on their in-house design, we manufactured—in line with our area of expertise—the truss for the Perun rocket launch pad. The truss, built to “space-grade” standards, was constructed from a special grade of hardened AW6082 aluminum and exceptionally thick tubes to ensure high rigidity at the critical moment of peak load during launch. An interesting aspect of the production process was the very high standards of dimensional precision imposed by the SpaceForest design team. Welding practice, however, shows that the thicker the materials—especially when welded with multiple passes—the greater the risk of thermal distortion. It took two weeks and numerous trials on test versions of this truss to master the process to the point where we began to stay within the acceptable tolerances. It was a difficult task, but one that brought some new experience to AluPro. We did our job well—because today, six years later, the platform is still being used for Perun launches, and we haven’t heard of any significant failures.
If you have an unusual project that relates in any way to truss structures, we invite you to contact us—whether you have a finished design or are seeking technical consultation. I believe that, thanks to our practical experience and academic and engineering expertise, we are a leading center in Poland in the specialized field of truss systems.
