The main difference between masts and towers is ease of use and the amount of space required for installation. There is also an important economic consideration: towers are generally more expensive but take up significantly less space, whereas masts are cheaper but require a plot large enough to accommodate the entire guy wire system.
Masts require periodic inspections and checks of cable tension, and in critical situations, they may topple over as a result of serious operational errors. Towers, although more expensive, require no maintenance—especially when made of aluminum and equipped with stainless steel bolt sets. There is also no risk of a tower collapsing due to improper maintenance or sabotage.
Towers—especially those with a ridge width of one meter—are significantly safer and more convenient to use. An internal ladder makes it easier for the technician to move around the structure, and the worker is protected by the tower walls, which act as a natural cage. The towers also allow for easy installation of the Securo fall protection system (an option available on AluPro T1000 towers).
The final aspect is the issue of nature conservation. In some foreign markets, as well as in certain areas of Poland (e.g., Natura 2000 sites), restrictions on the use of guy wires are in place to protect birds. In such cases, a tower may be the only available solution.
