Steel tower H=30 for a very small plot

The concept for this project arose from unique constraints. Faced with the task of erecting a tower of considerable height—30 meters—in a confined space with a base of just 4.5 meters, we took a strategic approach. The challenge was further compounded by the proximity of two adjacent buildings and the need to fit within the space between them, as shown in the photo on the right. It was precisely the limited space at the base of the tower and its intended height that made this project difficult.

The choice of a steel structure was a natural one due to its rigidity, which stems from steel’s Young’s modulus. This rigidity helped limit the displacement of the tower’s top despite the relatively narrow width of its base. To meet the constraints while maintaining the proper taper of the tower, we developed a solution: namely, the use of upper segments only 500 mm wide. This approach allowed us to construct a lightweight steel tower weighing just 1,200 kg, while still reaching a height of 30 meters. Additionally, the design includes an external ladder configuration, enhancing accessibility and usability.
